JEM’s New Look!

April 16th, 2014

A few months ago, while trying to decide on what vinyl ‘fake’ wood backdrops to buy, I pressed cancel on my order instead of ‘buy’. I thought, why does the wood backdrops have to be fake??… there has to be an option to have real wood as a backdrop. I contacted Craig Mossing knowing he had done […]

A few months ago, while trying to decide on what vinyl ‘fake’ wood backdrops to buy, I pressed cancel on my order instead of ‘buy’. I thought, why does the wood backdrops have to be fake??… there has to be an option to have real wood as a backdrop. I contacted Craig Mossing knowing he had done some other woodworking projects in town. After lots of discussion and brainstorming on Craig’s part, our new, one-of-a-kind, custom backdrop was born! Craig designed a backdrop stand that can accommodate both our paper backdrops we have always used along with the capabilities to switch out both the wall and floor with different wood pieces such as old barn wood of various colors, etc. A HUGE thank you to Craig for his design in helping this vision come to life. We couldn’t be more happy and excited to use this new backdrop stand!

Never in a million years did we imagine we would be here. We started out as two young girls dreaming of spending our lives photographing YOU, never chasing recognition, and so to be given this award is pretty special. The best part about it all is that we have made so many true friends and role models along the way. When it is all said and done, what really matters are the relationships we make along the way.

When filming and being a part of the pre-party video we had no idea it would loop the entire party! Was kinda cool to be on the other end of the camera for once.

Being in the same spot for nearly three years and never really having a down time, created more than just dirt and dustballs.  After not being able to locate several props and feeling a sense of discouragement as we looked over at a heaping mound of blankets, odds and ends, and things that never had a home, we had an “ah-ha” moment when we realized, we are photographers, not personal organizers or interior designers.  Took us long enough.  We decided to call in some much needed help by Interiors by Laura who so happens to be a cousin and friend.  So within one weekend (and maybe some pre prep work) we tore the studio apart and did a complete redesign.

So many of our friends and family helped with everything from painting, installing doors and building furniture.  This redesign weekend could not have happened without all of the helping hands so we thank all of you!  A special and huge thank you to Laura Aguilar for her time, ideas and amazing talent.

We would like to dedicate the song, you know, the one from the Wonder Years to all that helped us…

So excited to share with all of you our new studio makeover!!

Every year JEM takes a company picture.  What once was a photo of two has grown to a photo of five JEM girls.  Starting from the left is Colleen, our wedding assistant.  Colleen attends the University of Toledo and stops by often to catch up, provide donuts and is ALWAYS a breath of fresh air.  Colleen the last two years have been memorable.  Can’t wait for the season to begin.  Next is Emily Moody and Jennifer Daher, they are the J-E-M in JEM and not only are we the owners and photographers, but we are also the office cleaners, fridge stockers, coffee makers, grounds crew,  recyclers, baby whispers and we don’t want to toot our own horns but (toot-toot) we are also experts in making a fool of ourselves for the perfect picture of your little one.  Next is Emily, our office assistant who often teaches us about those techie things we sometimes miss.  She gracefully puts us up-to-date with current technology (pin-terest, facebook updates, upgrades from flip phones to something more smart, etc.).  Last but not least is Kellie, our office manager.  Do you have an hour for us to continually boast about how extremely grateful we are that she has become a part of our team (aka company).  Those of you who have met her know she can send a shiver down your spine just by her calm, sweet presence.

PS  We have also provided the outtake for your enjoyment and/or laughter.  Jen, when we all say “silly face” it doesn’t mean your usual smile.
